handing in of tailoring processes
i also enjoyed doing the samples and learning how to do different techniques especially putting in a shoulder pad this gave me more understanding of the construction of a jacket and what goes into making one, this sample was one of my favourite to do as i feel i really learnt alot from it.
throughout the whole project i did find it hard to fit it all in as we had 2 weeks of taught lesson and 2 weeks of independent study i enjoyed doing my work at my pace however my pace isn't always best and i would have preferred maybe an extra week of taught lesson.
throughout the project we were doing samples which we then had to do and create something innovative out of it this i did enjoy as it helped me learn more about the creation of a tailored jacket and different ways of changing the silhouette of the wearer.
after handing my work in i had a tutorial with sue which I'm not gonna lie i was nervous about but she was really nice and gave me constructive feedback on my work which i found really helpful and useful to my next project as well.
during this time of tailoring practices i had a test for dyslexia and yes if you haven't heard by now i have dyslexia although i am waiting for my 3 hour test to have it confirmed and yes i may have been hurrendously hungover when i took the test which i think could only have helped me!

critical studies lecture one asethetics and taste
rules of beauty-aesthetics
how do we require knowledge? 1) a knower 2) something to be known
do i know that i exist?
do i know that the world exists?
Rene Descartes-"i think therefore i am" certainty he was thinking.
part material part immaterial-mind and body
body is the vehicle of the mind
mind names sensations and objects of external world.
BEAUTY AND TASTE
"no object is so beautiful that under certain conditions it will not look ugly" - Oscar Wilde.
Plato-truth
reality is an imperfect copy of the forms (truths) art therefore is a much less perfect copy of a copy
PLATO'S CAVE
Plato imagines a group of people who have lived chained in a cave all of their lives, facing a blank wall. The people watch shadows projected on the wall by things passing in front of a fire behind them, and begin to ascribe forms to these shadows. According to Plato, the shadows are as close as the prisoners get to seeing reality. He then explains how the philosopher is like a prisoner who is freed from the cave and comes to understand that the shadows on the wall are not constitutive of reality at all, as he can perceive the true form of reality rather than the mere shadows seen by the prisoners.
Aristotle - art whilst largely mimetic could purge the soul
the Kantian revolution
radical explorations of the condition of knowledge what does it mean to know and what is the result of that knowing
the mind contributes to the experience of objects.
the thing- the thing in itself
noumenon-phenomenon
things in themselves can be known only in the imagination
where is beauty?
not in the object of observation?
nor is it in a reasoned response ?
disinterested not to be confused with uninterested
disinterested-having no interest direct engagement with.
read Rousseau so long until the beauty of expression no longer interferes only then kovnt.
Hegel content v form
- no such thing as the thing in itself
everything in the universe building to something else
art is evidence of revelation of spirit
what cannot be known is nothing
there is no unbreakable thing in itself.
phenomenology- an examination of consciousness and the structures that underpin experience.
what does experience feel like?
what does our life world contain?
HEIDEGGER
thinking begins only when we have come to know that reason glorified for centuries is the stiff necked adversary of thought.
the origin of the work of art 1935-1937
Artworks, Heidegger contends, are things, a definition that raises the question of the meaning of a "thing." As this concept is so broad, he narrows down the definition to "mere things," meaning inanimate objects. He then chooses to examine a pair of shoes painted by Vincent Van Gogh, looking to the work to establish a distinction between artwork and other "things." This was actually typical of Heidegger as he often chose to study shoes and shoe maker shops as an example for the analysis of a culture. Heidegger explains the viewer's responsibility to consider the variety of questions about the shoes, asking not only about form and matter—what are the shoes made of?—but bestowing the piece with life by asking of purpose—what are the shoes for?
a painting is a thing of a certain type.
wearing shoes is different from seeing.
the being of shoes of their usefulness
painted shoes reveal the truth about shoes
LANGUAGE AND WITTGENSTEIN
big questions
how do we understand the world?
is the limit to that understanding?
if so how are parameters to be defined?
TRACTUS 1921
"whereof one cannot speak there of one must be silent"-Wittgenstein
language cannot say everything
language and the world share a common form.
art, god ethics etc reside. outside of language (occupying the realm of the mystical.)
"the limits of my language are the of my world?"-Wittgenstein
language games
meaning is a social activity words are not pictures of objects, ideas and situations they mean only in so far as they can be used.
god, beauty, good etc don't exist (in the platonic sense)
they mean what they do only in the context of how they are used.
MEANING IS USE
beauty is not property that we can come to know
nor is it a type of a response but we know how when and where to use it.
handing in project and presentation
for our presentation we got goody bags to give to all of the group with our branding in it and a chocolate from hotel choclat which was even colour coded to our whole collection.
the presentation went okay but i kept prouncing our collection whcih was impossible to define impoosible to design which was embarrassing and then i started laughing to make it even worse so im pretty sure my part of the presentation didnt go so well but never mind.
we handed in our project on wednesday and on the friday we were given a new breif called tailoring processes which sounds really good and should be an enjoyable project and not as stressful as the last one, we also have a trip to the west yorkshire playhouse to the wardrobe department which should be so much fun and i cant wait for!

15 pieces of work
this is a piece of work i did in creative approaches to fashion i was using inspiration from martin margiela and a dress he made out of bow ties to create this inspired image.
this image i did in creative approaches to fashion workshop i like it becasue i used different medias to create it i chose it as i will be able to look back at it and see how my drawing technique have changed.
this is the ring i created in my jewerlly elective i made it out of copper and brass and i do quite like it but if i could have made it again i would have made it out of the same material and i would have used different coloured gems in the middle of the ring e.g. blue so you would be able to see them more.
this is the dress i made in creative design relisation i have chosen this as i was of my images becasue it was one of the projects i got my best mark on and i really enjoyed this project i also really like the dress i made.
this is one of my lineups i did for creative design practices i chose this piece as this is one of the first lineups i did before i chose my final line up i chose this as i will be able to see the difference between the two lineups.
this is my final line up from creative design practises i have chosen this image as i really liked my final lineup and i like the comparison between the two line ups as you are able to see the differences and what i have kept and what i have changed.
this image i did for creative design practices was for my market level research and i used magazine articles to show the comparison between the highstreet and designer and showing the tricle down effect on the highstreet.
this is paper garment i made in creative approaches to fashion workshop i quite liked this as its different and not something i had done before so this is why i put it in my 15 images.
this is a dress i made in a workshop for interdisciplinary processes i really like this dress as this was oringiannly a sample i made to try out an idea i had of making a dress out of cones for my final piece for interdisciplinary but after making it i decided it looked quite messy in the calico and so deiced to try it out in another fabric.
this is my piece i made for the GFW project we did i made a bag out of two belts and two records as we had to make something out recycled things, i do like this bag and i was quite proud of it which is why i have put it in my blog.
this piece is from creative approaches to fashion i chose it as i do quite like this piece but i also like the contrast between the paper and the fabric i also like the colours that i used for it.
this is my final piece for interdisciplinary processes i do quite like this skirt that i made i think it portrays my idea of the skirt sticking out at the side and looks much better than the card i was going to use did.
final day with 3rd years
i really enjoyed working with the 3rd years and it gave me an insight in to what to expect when I'm in 3rd year and what it will be like and what i will be doing, Ellen and Cordelia were really helpful about there experiences in second and third year and what i was to expect. i have found the experience really interesting and really helpful and it wasn't half as bad as i thought it would be.

2nd day with 3rd years
as i was now with Leanne first she had me put ribbon round a load of swing tags she had made for her garments, and then for the rest of the day i was tracing out her patterns for her which was okay and i learnt some things about patterns and making different patterns. so really it was an okay day.
