first day of working with the 3rd years

Today was our first day working with the third years, i was soooooo nervous before we met them, we were given a photo of them and they had a photo of us and then we had to find each other, i had a girl called Ellen who was really nice but she had me and another girl in our class working with her and some people hadn't come in so i was taken away and put with another girl called Cordelia who was really cool and nice we went for a cup of tea to get to know each other we then went upstairs and she showed me through her work which was really good and interesting and i found it really helpful with what to know about with going in to 3rd year and how to present my work. she originally was going to ask the girl who was meant to be working with her to go to Dewsbury and get her some fabric but i said i would go for her because Ive never been and wanted to know where it was so i would know where to find it when i need to get fabric for my future projects.

i got the train to Dewsbury and found fab-works really easy it was just down the hill from the train station when i got there i asked the man who worked there for help to find the fabric that i needed for Cordelia he was really helpful and we had trouble finding some of the fabric he went into the warehouse to look and see if there was any in there, he was really nice and really helpful in the end we found what i needed but there was only 3 metres of the grey wool fabric that i needed and i needed 6 metres so i just had to take that.
I'm really glad i went to fab works as i now know where i need to go when i need to get some fabric and the people who work their are really helpful.
when i got back to college i helped Cordelia by pinning some patterns and cutting them out i then unpicked a trouser leg for her.
even though i was really worried about working with the third years i really enjoyed it and love working with Cordelia she had so much to tell me and alot of advice so hopefully i will get to continue working with her for the next 4 weeks!

interdisciplinary

we had our first interdisciplinary day on Tuesday it was a very busy but good day. we had to chose between two tasks i chose the first one was to create 5 samples based on the 15 sheets we did over Easter and then create five idea sheets using the samples we had already made by 3 o'clock it was a lot to do in around 6 hours but i guess this is what it will be like in second year so we have to get used to it. i enjoyed doing the samples but i found it quite hard to do so many in 6 hours , these are some pictures of the samples i did, i did this sample with inspiration from Hussein Chalayan, i made cones from cotton calico and placed them over the mannequin to create a cone like dress and change the shape of the sillhoette of the human body, i really like this idea and i will probably develop it and take this idea further.

this is the next sample i did this was inspiration from a butterfly metamorphosis, i quite like this idea but i feel it really needs developing maybe into a bigger sample or possibly smaller samples and make it into a top or dress to create a different silhouette.

the next day on Wednesday we carried on with what we were doing and had little individual tutorials with Ian, Angie and Caroline to show them the work that we had done over the Easter and in the Tuesday session and how we could improve it.

these are a few pictures of the work i carried on with in Wednesdays session,

for this sample i tried out the cones i had made on Tuesday as different parts of clothing and see how i could metamorphosis the body and change the silhouette of it.

this is a sample i did on the little mannequin of a silhouette of a skirt idea i had i may develop this into a bigger scale sample and see if what that would look like, i really like this idea as it metamorphosis the human body into something completely different.

this is another sample i did with shoulders again i really like this idea as this also changes the human form silhouette i may also develop this idea into a bigger sample.
