Fashion Art and Culture

we have just started a new project Fashion Art and Culture.
for our first 3 lessons we had lectures on the past history of fashion art and culture over the past 100 years or so.
i found this so interesting!!!! i have found out soo much more about the past that i didn't know about i have also found out about different subcultures that existed throughout history like the Gibson girls and flapper girls which i found really interesting also about the woman's progression through history and getting rid of the corset and becoming equal to men!
for this brief we have to make a garment or artefact's to be shown on an online exhibition. we have to pick a theme/topic to research into and create an artefact from this.
i have chosen to research into subcultures and i have chosen to make a corset with the ribbons cut to show woman not conforming to the way they were expected to but after speaking to Ian and Sue yesterday i have decided to maybe do a different panel on each bit of the corset and possible screen print on to it a different image from over the years of what that generation of women believable to be controversial to wear or what conformed them during that time in the past.
over the reading week i am going to interview different woman who grew up in different generations from the past century and see what there constraints where.
i have just finished creative design practices and i am exhausted!!!!!

after we came back from Christmas it was go go go with the project and then to top it off in the first week back i got the flu and had to go home which resulted in me fallen behind with my work. i then came back and had tried to do some work while i was ill but it was crap and i knew it was i then showed it to Ian knowing it was rubbish and he ripped it up!!! although i did say it might as well be ripped up it was quite funny to be honest and made me get on with my work.

i chose to do seeds contain flowers for the container culture and it was quite a hard one to pick as there wasn't much research i could do into but Ian told me to research into Karl Blossfeldt who photographs pictures of flowers and roots and he is an amazing photographer all off his photographs are in black and white and i think this gives it the photos a better impact to the person who is looking at them. this is a photo of a flower by Karl Blossfeldt.
for 2 weeks we had to have individual tutorials with Ian and Angie for the first week i had Ian and he really helped me sort out my work and how to layout my work this was when he told me to research into Karl Blossfeldt, the second week i had Angie and she really helped me with my design development and how to develop it more and suggestions on different fabrics to use.

after continuing my design development i finally came up with my final 6 designs for my line up.
the final line up had to have CAD used on it so the day before it had to be handed in i was in the computer room from 8:45 until 2:00 working on my shop report and trend boards because i think they look better with the use of CAD instead of just cut and stick.
after i had added my fabric samples to my trend boards i Had finally finished and all i then did was bind it all together.
although i really enjoyed this brief i was stressed all the way through and feel i could of have done so much better given more time, but its done now and now i can learn to handle my time more efficiently with future briefs.
