2 finished briefs!!!!

i havent wrote anything for awhile but i have just finished two briefs!.

the first breif was creative approaches to fashion, i found this breif exiciting, new and sooo much fun!!!

i chose to do tied and twisted in the style of maison martin margiela for the brief and i found by doing my research that margiela uses different things e.g playing cards to create his garments i thought these ideas were brilliant and found out alot more about his margielas work.

i really enjoyed the whole process of creating designs and manipulating fabrics to create new pieces of work, while doing this brief i did two drawing sessions of creative approaches to fashion these sesssions really helped me in the drawing and creating research for the creative approaches to fashion.

the best part of this brief was getting creative with a pair of trousers, a shirt and a bag, and manipulating them into a garment that was able to be worn. i ended up making this top, we also had to photograph it as if it "fell from the sky" this was an interesting thing to have to do and i enjoyed having my model do different poses to see which one looked best in the end i chose this one >>>

i took the quote it fell from the sky and took this picture as if it fell from the sky into a tree!

the second brief i have completed was called creative design realisation and this brief was fantastic!

we had to select a dress that showed fullness and flare and then create a pattern for it and then make it out of cotton calico, i found it hard at first as i have never made my own pattern before or used industrial machines to create a garment before but once i got into it i loved it i still found it hard in parts but Hugo was fabulous and a great help to me. the best part was finishing my garment and seeing the final product. this brief has really helped me into understanding pattern cutting and the process of creating a garment like that with making your own pattern etc. this is the dress i made >>>

we have now started a new brief and started it with going on a trip round Leeds to find out where things where and how much things cost this was basically just to show us where to find things we will need like fabrics etc and to take pictures with street musicians but i think that was just for fun!.

on Tuesday we got given our brief and i am SO excited to get started with it researching into trends and going round shops to investigate further so i will keep more up dated during this brief then i did in the last one!

2nd proper week on fashion course!

We had our first proper creative design session on Tuesday 7th October i really enjoyed getting into the designing and creative aspect of creating new images out of other images. although i enjoyed it i did find it quite hard especially when everybody elses seemed to be really good at drawing and getting creative mine seemed rubbish compared to theirs but everybody is different and it just takes time and practice to keep drawing and trying until you get it right.

i decided the image i chose (right) may not have been suitable for the work we were doing in class but i decided to press on with manipulating this image and have learnt from this and not to chose such a complicated image i love this dress but i now don't think it was appropriate for what we were doing in class.
On Friday 10th October i was in the sewing class with Hugo which i loved! i loved getting stuck in to the machines and getting used to them and how thread them up and the different seams you can do the machines and how to do them, this i found really interesting and useful for when i come to make my garments in the future.

proper full week on fashion course!!!

This was my first proper week on the BA fashion course.
Critical studies on monday wasnt what i expected at first and i found it quite hard to grasp the concept on critical studies but i feel it will get easier over the next few weeks when we proprely get into studying it.
tuesday i found really interesting looking at other peoples work they did over the summer and seeing how they described it as each person took a different way at describing their work.
i also loved all the different images/ways to draw and create using different types of media that were shown on the powerpoint presentation.
friday was the best day i have had so far on the course i absouloty loved pattern cutting with andrew once i got the hang of it!
i really enjoyed using all my equipment and seeing the final product of my pattern.

first week in leeds!!!

the first week in leeds was really hard for me been away from home and Hull i even consided packing it all in and going home as i didnt feel i was ready to be away from home or be at university.
the first day was the best and the worst of my time in leeds.
1. i started at college and met loads of new people that was really good getting to know everyone and were people come from and why they picked fashion to do.

2. i had to start a new job at 4:00 so i had to be at morrisons for 4:00 i didnt want to go it was all too much in one day but once i got in there i was fine but didnt finsh until 10 and when i got in there was a party going on in my flat and i all i wanted to do was go to bed but i couldnt so i stayed up and partied insted.

i now love leeds and dont want to go home this is a new chapter in my life and intend to enjoy it!

this blog is more personal entry than about course related entry but as we havent properly started the course yet i thought i would give an honest account of my first day/ week in leeds.
